LanTEEAL 2.0TEEAL (The
Essential Electronic Agricultural Library) is a digital library of
agricultural journals. The current version is from 1993 - 2006. At
MUARIK/CAEC a server was installed purposely for LanTEEAL. Any user who
is on the Local Area Network of MUARIK/CAEC can access the journals.
But all this will be possible after installation of the LanTEEAL
program on the user computer. For installations contact the
Systems
Administrator.

Mann Library Launches LanTEEAL 2.0By Olivia Vent and Elaine GuideroMann
Library is pleased to announce the release of LanTEEAL 2.0, a brand-new
version of the "library in a box" pioneered by Mann's TEEAL project in
1999. TEEAL (The Essential Electronic Agricultural Library), a digital
library of 136 top agricultural journals from 1993–2006, has been sold
at low cost to universities and institutions throughout the developing
world.
The software used to create the original TEEAL—which filled
460 CD-ROMs—is too outmoded to work on today's computers and operating
systems. LanTEEAL 2.0, which is stored on a single 500 GB hard drive,
is more user-friendly and runs on a library's or faculty's local area
network, dramatically improving accessibility.
Since its
launch nine years ago, TEEAL has improved access to current scientific
knowledge in over 25 countries. In addition, TEEAL has recently worked
with the University of Hawaii to place nine LanTEEAL 2.0 sets in
universities and ministries in the Kurdistan region of Iraq. In Africa,
TEEAL is currently under a grant with the Alliance for a Green
Revolution (AGRA) to place 25 more sets throughout the continent. At
the same time, Stefan Einarson, director of information technologies
for CALS International Programs, is helping to place a LanTEEAL 2.0 set
with the West African Center for Crop Improvement at the University of
Ghana. And in Latin America, the Tropical Agricultural Research and
Teaching Center (CATIE), a regional research and training institution
based in Costa Rica, is helping to promote greater awareness of TEEAL
within the region.
While TEEAL was originally expected to have
fulfilled its mission by now, there is a continued demand for access to
bundled, offline scientific information. Africa in particular has not
achieved the level of Internet connectivity needed to take full
advantage of free, online journal programs. LanTEEAL 2.0 will continue
to meet that demand and help improve access to current scholarship.
